How to Fix "System Idle Process" Taking Too Much CPU [Tutorial]

How to Fix "System Idle Process" Taking Too Much CPU [Tutorial]

Have you ever opened up Task Manager and noticed the System Idle Process is using 90% or more of your CPU? Contrary to what you might think, that’s not a bad thing. Here’s what that process actually does.

Issues addressed in this tutorial:

If you’ve ever poked around in the Task Manager—Windows 10 users have to look under the “Details” tab—you’ll see that the System Idle Process is using most, if not all, of your CPU. But the System Idle Process is just that; an idling process made by the operating system. Without this process constantly keeping your processor occupied with something to do, your system could potentially freeze.

In other words, the CPU resources used by the System Idle Process are just the CPU resources that aren’t being used. If programs are using 5% of your CPU, the System Idle Process will be using 95% of your CPU. You can think of it as a simple placeholder. That’s why the Task Manager describes this process as the “percentage of time the processor is idle.” It has a PID (process identifier) of 0.

Windows hides the System Idle Process information from the normal Processes tab in Windows 10’s Task Manager to keep things simple, but it’s still shown on the Details tab.

There are very few things the average user does to cause a processor to run at full capacity. Even a modest modern processor has more than enough capacity for even the most challenging game, image or video editor or any other program you care to use. So it can be annoying when Windows itself utilizes all your processor causing your computer to slow down. When that process is called the ‘System Idle Process’, the irony is not lost on us.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

Low End PC Gamer : For those having trouble with the Superfetch fix, try going in to "services" (Search it on windows) and search for a process called 'sysmain' and disable it. This process is the former Superfetch process.
Mr.D : " back with another in-porn video" broh wtf
Shining Plays : The task manager don't even load wtf ia wrong with my computer
Jesper Hall : Hi, great video thanks! It helped alot to change the value in TimeBrokerSvc but i still have some issues/questions :

1 - I have a ton of background apps/programs running, is there anyway to see wich is needed?

i've followed most guide's i can find about regedit.exe and msconfig.exe tweaking but i still have a load of weird stuff like "WMI Provider Host", "Systeminterrupts" and other things that uses a bunch of my CPU capacity. Simply opening another tab in a already open google chrome window will take my CPU between 85% and 95% for a few seconds depending on what page i have open already.

2- When i open my task manager i sometimes see a number after a program, like if im running a singe google chrome window it says in task manager : Google Chrome (9) , the number always change and if i open another tab in the same window it splits the processes so it says :

Google Chrome (9)
Google Chrome
Task Manager

3- I sometimes see duplicated background processes, the one i find the most is "COM Surrogate", i have no idea what this does but sometimes i see 5 or 6 of them running quite alot of my CPU and Disk capacity.

I have a 2.2 Ghz intel celeron processer and 4 GB ram and 400gb harddrive.
Do you have any ideas how i can make this run better ?
JohnPaul : Is it safe to do the second method in this video ? What does changing the number 3 to 4 do exactly???
